But as special effect technology and costume designs became better, Hollywood kicked it up a bit with feature-length high budget productions. Superman, the flick and the three follow ups started in the 1970s and the ’90s and beyond brought us Batman, The Hulk, the X-Men and the now infamous Spider-Man, to name a couple.

Why all this interest in making Superhero movies? Giant dollars. The 2 Spider-Man pictures alone have netted about eight hundred million dollars apiece in worldwide ticket sales. This type of revenue couldn’t be generated without an enthusiastic public interest in Superheroes.

So if you happen to feel you are alone in your insatiable enthusiasm for your own comic collection, think again. Directors, movie script writers, and even actors are writing for, of all things, comics now. Massive name Hollywood writers are helping to sell more comics. As an example, Joss Whedon, probably known best for making Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has written stories for Wonder in the series astounding X-Men.

Back in the 90s, who’d have known that all of these fan boys had been hiding in the Hollywood woodworks waiting for comics to gain some cultural credibility? If you have not followed some of the comic stories of the last a few months, Stan “the man” Lee has been fighting his private battle with His life long employer, Wonder Comics. Stan is one of the most widely recognized personality creators in the comic industry.

He has characters like Batman, Spider-Man and the Hulk credited to his creative imagination.

Appears Stan had a contractual agreement with Wonder for ten percent of any revenue purchased by Wonder from films and Television projects targeted on Stan characters. But allegedly the high greenback superstructure of the company mind does not want to part with all of their earnings. Now this is nothing new, but Stan Lee managed to win the 1st round for the small guy. The judge presiding over Stan’s case agreed that Stan should receive his chunk of the concluded on profits. Now perhaps Stan will get his share and perhaps he will not.

Sounds like Marvel will be appealing the choice. At any rate, if there were not serious cash concerned in the production of comic Superhero flicks, this case wouldn’t have been such a problem. I think the future is going to bring plenty more of my fave heroes to the movie screen. I have started my own DVD collection and as more heroes get transferred from the screen to round disc, I’m going to continue to extend the scale of my collection. Do you’re of the opinion a DVD superhero collection will be worth as much as a comic collection in the future? Likely not, but that won’t prevent me from building my collection anyhow.
